Turner, the New Zealapd free-scoring test batsman, who plays for Worcestershire, is the first player of the English county cricket season to complete 2000 runs in first-class matches; He reached the target when he had scored 11 for Worcestershire against Lancashire yesterday. He went on to make 99 when he was run out by a throw from the covers by the West Indian. C. H. Lloyd. Turner thus missed by one run the honour of breaking the county record he equalled last week when he scored his ninth century for the season. Turner, whose previous best English season was 1182 runs in 1968, is the first Worcestershire player to top 2000 since T. W. Graveney did it in 1964. Results:— At Hove: Somerset 222 and 34 (J.-Snow 5/18, A. Buss 4/27). lost to Sussex 327/5 dec., by an Innings and 51 runs. Sussex 22 points, Somerset 4.

At Birmingham: Warwickshire 140 and 229 <R. Khanhai 72; J. Holder 5/36), lost to Hampshire 218 and 155/1 (B. Richards 57. G. Greenidge 62 not out), by nine wickets. Hampshire 17 points. Warwickshire 5.

At Cardiff: Northamptonshire 247 and 193/7 dec. (A. Lightfoot 63. Mushtaq 70). drew with Glamorgan 200 and 165/6. Northamptonshire 6 points.
