TASMANIA TOUR
N.Z. Cyclist Third (N.Z. Press Assn.-Copyright) LAUNCESTON. The New Zealand cyclist, B. Pascoe, was third alter the first stage of the "Examiner" tour through flood-covered Tasmania yesterday. Rescue operations for families trapped by floodwaters in the Mersey River Valley on Tasmania's north-west coast provided an extra hazard for the cyclists. The final sprint to the stage finish in Latrobe was disrupted when riders were confronted by a stalled Army truck only 100 vards from the line. Two Victorians, N. Wilson and R. Tankards, dominated the stage. They broke away from the bunch early on, took both sprints, and continued their own race well ahead of the bunch for the last 25 miles to Latrobe. Pascoe finished 95sec behind, and close up were the other three members of the New Zealand team.
