FESTIVAL PLAYS
Six Chosen For Final
Six plays, including two from the North CanterburyWest Coast area, have been chosen to contest the finals of the Theatre Federation’s one-act play festival at Balclutha next month. The plays, announced after the southern area final at Tapanui on Saturday night, are:
Mairangi Players (Auckland): “Miss Julie,” by August Strindberg. Hawera Repertory Society: “The Smell of Burning,” by David Kempton. Westport Players: “The Calf Before the Hearse,” by Yves CabroL
Elmwood Players (Christchurch): “The Coffee Lace,” by John Bowen. Dunedin Repertory Society: “And So Ad Infinitum (The Insect Play),” by the Capek Bros. Milton Drama Club: “Black Comedy,” by Peter Shaffer.
Professor J. Reid, of Auckland, will judge the national final, which will be held on September 4 and 5.
