Losses In Softball

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A) OSAKA A crowd of 8000 saw the New Zealand women’s softball team clash with the title-holder, Australia, in a match that went to 11 innings before the Australians won, 5-2, in the world championship yesterday. Australia had to fight all the way to combat the strong New Zealand challenge, in which L. Bowles pitched an outstanding game. Australia opened strongly, scoring two runs in the first innings. New Zealand came back to score one in the second and one in the fifth. The scores remained tied until the eleventh, when the Australians hit a mighty home run over centre field to bring in three runners and take the game. Earlier yesterday, New Zealand lost, 0-2, to the Philippines, and on Saturday it went down, 1-2, to Canada. Other results were: Australia 4, Philippines 1; Japan 11, Zambia 1; Mexico 7, Taiwan 4; United States 13, Zambia 2.
