Beaten in three starts over country since, the latest with 10-10 over three miles at Ellerslie on August 12, by half a length. Stays well and suited by tough Ellerslie course. Seems certain to go well. O. Anning. 2 3401 FOXRANGI (1) 10-6. Outpaced field at last start in Riddiford Steeplechase (3m) at Trentham. Has sound record over fences but' looks a bit close to Sifta Sam for comfort. G. Bell. 3 1713 SUNSEEKER (6) 10-0. Good hurdler which turned to steeplechasing for runaway win over two miles and a half at Te Awamutu on July 25. Since ran excellent trial with third in hack middle-distance at Matamata last Saturday. Fast and a dashing jumper which certainly looks the one to beat. K. Old. 4 7341 KIMBERLITE (10) 9-11. Finished second to Spray Doone in Great Northern Steeplechase, her third race after a spell. Won steeplechase at Matamata last Saturday with a brilliant finishing run. Lacks speed but keeps going so should relish three miles at Ellerss ms macquarhie <t> «-m. Showed something of his old pace for a good part ot two miles and three-quarters at Matamata last Saturday but faded in latter stages. Still jumps well but at 11 years seems past his best. G. Won steeplechase double in minor company at Trentham last month. 7 0204 RUNNING BEAR (4) 9-4. Having had two spills in last four starts can hardly be recommended. Fair old plodder, always likely to cause an upset if betterfancied rivals make mistakes. Otherwise will find it hard to raise necessary pace. Consistent winter sprinter which finds it tougher as the tracks firm. Not very big either and might be troubled to carry 8-12 in this company. 2 4112 SKINT DIP (7) 0-12. Returned to racing after spell with encouraging second behind Just Kelly over six furlongs at Ellerslie on August 12. Previously won middle-distances impressively at Te Rapa in May. R. Smart young horse last season in hack and intermediate company. Has come back to form quickly after a spell. Broke out of hack and Intermediate company impressively with sprint wins at Avondale and Paeroa and scored easily in sevenhorse field at Matamata last Saturday. G. Won well enough over seven furlongs at Avondale on July 4 but form since only moderate. Weakened last start over seven furlongs at Pukekohe on August 1 after fair effort over seven furlongs at Te Awamutu. N. Riordan. 8 069 FOXVALE (8) 8-0. Good stayer a couple of years ago before he had to be put aside because of recurrent soreness. Has not shown up in two starts since —sprints at Tauranga and Ellerslie—but looks well enough. R. Skelton. 9 1668 KIND REGARDS (4) 7-12. Reached peak form to win Great Northern Oaks last autumn but failed in three subsequent starts before being spelled in midwinter. Evidently has class and might develop good form again as the season goes on. G. Willetts. 10 0000 MAC'S PRIDE (2) 7-12. Could once go with the best up to 11 furlongs but has shown nothing like the same form for 12 months or more. Finished sixteenth of 19 last time out over seven furlongs at Pukekohe. 11 0304 ODDFELLOW (14) 7-12. Good galloper which might come back to top form at any time. Fair fourth at last start at Pukekohe on August 1 in third attempt after a spell. B. Andrews. 12 1700 SUNWARM (14) 7-12. Won a sprint in the mud at Trentham last month but form otherwise has been disappointing due, perhaps, to her being troubled by soreness. Weakened badly and finished last in latest attempt over 11 furlongs at Pukekohe on August 1. 13 2904 WONDERBAR (12) 7-12. Failed to run on at last two attempts in middle distances at Matamata and Tauranga. Back to mile he might be
