STATE SALE OF DRUGS
No Support By Students (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Aug. 16. An attempt to recommend that the State be the only legal seller of the drug cannabis failed at the New Zea land University Students’ Association winter council to day. A motion from Waikato University seeking it lapsed for want of a seconder. Arguments for the motion from the Waikato president (Mr P. Fletcher) said that major firms such as those selling cigarettes should not be allowed to get into the mar ket The national council of the N.Z.U.S.A. also rejected a policy to press for the legal isation of marijuana. The president (Mr P. Gro cott) said that the N.Z.U.S.A still held its views on reassessment of the legal penalties for drug abuse and the improvement of social facili ties surrounding its use.
