Demonstration At George
Sir,—As-a Dutch national r and demonstrator against the s present All Black tour of . South Africa, I strongly pro- « test against the inaccuracy of , the cry, “Dutch bastards,” I used by New Zealand Rugby > supporters who saw the no- ; tbrious South African police iin action against coloured , people after the match against South-Western Districts. The historical Dutch link with South Africa is unfortunate, and the Dutch have ' some responsibility for the > religious hypocrisy accomt panying the apartheid syst tem, but I suggested the • term, “Boer bastards,” for i occasions of South African > police brutality. Apart from 1 the merit of being a sonorous : alliteration, the cry, “Boer > bastards,” enjoys the advan--1 tage of being entirely accur- • ate.—Yours, etc., i JAN HEKKENBERG. I Nelson, August 15, 1970.
