N.Z. Games Team Leaves For Home
(N.Z.P A. Staff Correspondent) EDINBURGH. New Zealand’s Commonwealth Camas team flew out of Edinburgh's Turnh.use Airport early yesterday morning on the first teg of Its threeday flight home. "It's been a happy team,” said Mr J. McManemln. the ‘earn manager, as he boarded the aircraft for London. •■Our medal tally was not as high as we had hoped, but th. team spirit never let down, he said. ' Mr C L. S. Cross, chairman of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association. said it was the happiest New Zealand team he had ever been associated with. Earlier, In the Games village, there was a last minute cramming of souvenirs Into alreadybulging suitcases. The village prepared a special early break* fast featuring traditional Scottish oatcakes. A pipe band piped the New Zealanders te their bus. The only team left in the vtl lage is the Australian one. which will leave today. Only 41 athletes and officials are continuing on to New Zealand from London The swimmers will go to the English championships in Blackpool. The 1500 metres silver medallist, T. J. L. Quax. will race In the British athletic championships at the White City in London, while the team captain. L. R. Mills, has a series of European field events engagements. The cycling team has remained in Edinburgh tor the beginning of the Scottish milk race, while the wrestling team is travelling home separately.
too, but without two of its members, K. Breeze and G. Walker, who have remained in the Edinburgh City Hospital for treatment to skin rashes.
