Improvements To Bush
In the very near future, Riccarton Bush would be the No. 1 attraction for Christchurch, said the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr R. W. J. Harrington), at a meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council last evening. He said that the bush itself was in better shape than it had been for years because of the effects of the watering scheme installed by the Riccarton Bush Trustees, and more income had allowed the trustees to improve the property. “Plans for the future leave no doubt that Riccarton House will have a far greater value to the people and ratepayers who keep it going.” said Mr Harrington. In the 10 years from 1960 to 1970. rents had increased from $824 to $4086, and grants from local bodies rose from $5OOO to $9500. Wages had risen from $5200 to $7600, he said.
