Valiant, the one-time favourite for the role of eup defender, stayed ahead all the way. Th 4 seat ware smooth and there was a moderate south-west breesea of 8-13 knot*. Valiant was one minute so seconds In front at the end of 54.3-mlle course. In another surprise, Heritage defeated Weatherly, Valiant'a Il-year-old trial horse by 3:41. showing more speed, than at any other time in the series. The Anal standings are.—
