Fast Raises $342

Fasting was more profitable than expected for the youth group of the Papanui Methodist Church at the week-end: the sponsored 50-hour fast, which started at 6 p.m, on Friday and ended at 8 p.m. on Sunday, raised s342—considerably more than the target of $2OO. The aim of the fast was to raise the money for the Sir Walter Nash Appeal Fund, and its success was such that on Sunday evening after a substantial intake of savouries, sausage rolls, and cakemembers of the youth group were talking of holding another fast soon, for another good cause. Seventeen of the original 25 fasten survived to the end, although, those who did not dropped out more because of other engagements than because of hunger. During the fast the group slept in the ehurch hall, and during the day played table tennis and other games, studied and held discussions. Several donations were received, including one from the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk).
