Frigate In Fine Run

“The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. In a very quiet morning's work at Hastings yesterday, Carlos and Frigate attracted attention when they galloped well over six furlongs on the plough. Earlier in the morning Luana also worked well but as it was still dark she could not be timed.

The plough and No. 1 grass offered good going. Luana (L. Carston) hit out boldly on the No. 1 grass. As she has been working well previously a good effort should be forthcoming in the Pahiatua Handicap, second leg of the double at Woodville tomorrow. Landscape (P. Miritana), a candidate for the Tamaki Handicap, worked over a round on the plough covering the last three in 37 4-ssec. Her recent form is poor and although she will be ridden at Woodville by R. J. Skelton she will be at good odds.

Golden Rebel (G. Innes) and Wellcourt (B. Kirke) galloped six furlongs in Imin 20sec, the last three in 39sec. Golden Rebel is in the Hurdles at Woodville and Wellcourt in the Farewell Handicap. Frigate (D. Withington) and Carlos (Carston) working on the plough covered six furlongs in imin 19 4-5, the last three in 41sec. Both were travelling well and Frigate will be a bright prospect in the Farewell Handicap. Box continued her preparation for the Grand National meeting by doing pacework on the plough.
