W.M.C. Finds More Nickel In Three Areas

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 20. Western Mining Corporation, Ltd, reported that drilling at the south end of the Kambalda dome indicated a new contact and hangingwall ore zone, known as the Hunt position.

The company says in its report for the 12 weeks to June 23 that samples from hole number 262 assayed 5.81 per cent over an intersection of 8.6 feet between a depth of 1307 and 1315 feet

A sample of 2.5 feet from hole 271 between 527 and 530 feet assayed 1.09 per cent nickel

An intersection of 7.5 feet I between 532 and 540 feet from the same hole assayed 3.42 per cent nickel. An intersection of 6.7 feet from hole number 9095 at a depth of 1214 feet assayed 5.34 per cent nickel. Drilling is continuing. Drilling of the Gellatly shoot on a 200 ft by 200 ft grid indicated a plunge length of 1200 ft for the contact ore.

High grade sulphides were intersected on a contact to the west of Juan shoot and drilling is continuing. Predevelopment fill-in drilling continued in the Dur kin and Juan shoots.

Exploration drilling on the east and west flank of the main trough in the Fisher shoot (area 2) continued dur ing the 12 weeks. Some nickliferous sulphides were intersected in angled drilling On the east flarik.

Exploratory drilling on a 400 ft by 400 ft grid in McMahon shoot intersected high grade sulphides on the contact

down dip from McMahon shoot proper.

The company said that exploration work continued in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. Geological, geochemical and geophysical work continued on numerous prospects and drilling was carried out on some of these. Drilling at Mount Clifford was concentrated on the Marriott prospect. Intersections of nickel sulphide mineralisation during the period, together with those previously reported, suggest that three separate zones of mineralisation occur. Evaluation drilling is in progress. Work is continuing on other potential nickel sulphide prospects in the Mount Clifford area. Gold production by Gold Mines of Kalgoorlie (Aust.), Ltd, for the period was 28,169 fine ounces compared with

28,750 fine ounces for the previous period and 33,581 fine ounces for the corresponding quarter of last year. Talc production by Three Springs Talc Pty, Ltd, during the quarter was 7416 tons of number 1 grade and 1018 tons of number 2 grade.

Production of nickel from the Kwiuana refinery was continuing to build up satisfactorily and production of other products had com menced. Lump iron ore production at Geraldton during the 12 weeks totalled 167,616 tons compared with 119,952 tons, during the previous three months and 159,677 tons for the corresponding period of last year. Gold production from Central Norseman Gold Corporation NL totalled 11,399 fine ounces compared with 12,603 fine ounces for the corres ponding period of last year.
