Rats, Mice, Pigeons
Four school* out of 16 checked for rodent infestation by the Christchurch City Council were found to be infested with mice, it was reported at toe council’s meetnig last evening.
A private house wa* found to be heavily infested with rats and flea*, so that a commercial pest controller was put to work. FOur case* Of rats in sewers were ' dealt With in May. Two cases of suspected pigeon mite have been reported as the result of reeent publicity about toe problem in a hotel in the centre of Christchurch. In one case, the complainant had the roof area treated and birdproofed immediately. Action against wild pigeons and mite in Cathedral Square includes the birflproofing of areas on toe tops of buildings, toe use of baited traps and insecticidal spray, and the cleaning of accumulations Of pigeon droppings. An inspection of buildings in toe Square has shown fewer pigeon nesting areas.
