CLASSIC GOLF
First-Hole
Sponsor
Steady progress is being made with the organisation of the second Christchurch City Garden Classic golf tournament, to be held at Russley in December. The chairman of the sales promotion committee for the combined Christchurch Round Tables (Mr G. Scrimshaw) announced yesterday that Benson and Hedges, Ltd, will be sponsoring the first hole, at a cost of $5OO. Earlier, it had been announced that Kiwi Bacon, Ltd, and Gollan and Company, Ltd. had undertaken sponsorship of the tenth and eighteenth holes, each at $lOOO. Mr Srimshaw said there had also been a keen interest in patronage, which costs $2OO, the same figure as in the first Garden Classic last year. Patronage carries with it playing rights in “The Press” pro-am tournament which precedes the Garden Classic as well as parking and clubhouse rights.
