A total of 699,075 pupils were attending primary and secondary schools at July 1, 1969, says the annual report of the Education Department The report was tabled in Parliament today. The comparable figure for 1968 was 689,763. There were 462,300 primary pupils in State schools and 52,400 in private schools. Secondary pupils in State schools numbered 156,391, with 27,900 in private schools. Play centres catered for 15,000 children, and kindergartens for 22,900.
