NEW VESSEL FOR R.N.Z.N.

A United States Navy oceanographic research ship of the class of the Charles H. Davis, which will be hired by the Royal New Zealand Navy.

The ship, which has a separately powered bowpropeller for manoeuvrability at low speeds, is one of a specially constructed series built for the United States Navy over the last 10 years.

Part of the agreement for hiring the ship Is that all information obtained by the R.N.Z.N. will be made available to the U.S.N.

The information will be processed at the Defence Scientific Establishment at Devonport, Auckland.
