BURNSIDE MARKET
fN.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, July 14. Prime cattle improved by as much as $8 a head at the Burnside stock market today. This was in spite of a fall in the export schedule. The yarding of 223 was about 100 fewer than last week.
An entry of 131 pigs was 50 more than at the previous sale. Over all, quality was good, but the entry met a dragging sale, and values were down S2 a head. This was partly because of the larger yarding. A yarding of 1135 lambs was considerably larger than last week. Values for heavy lambs dropped 50c, while light-weights maintained late rates. A yarding of 2530 sheep was also larger than last. week. While ewes predominated, there were some good hoggets, values for which opened on a par with last week, but receded as the sale progressed. Several pens were passed in the final race. Values for heavy ewes were fully maintained but light ewes improved 30c, partly because of outside competition. Values were:— Prime Cattie.—Top, $174 to $195: heavy, $l6O to $168; medium, $l5l to $158; light, $l4O to $l4B. Top heifer, to $141; medium, $l2O to $133; light, $95 to $llO.
