STUDENTS’ PROTEST

Letter To Staff

A memorandum has been sent to the staff of the University of Canterbury concerning the invitation by the University Student Association to cancel lectures on Friday, July 17 as a protest against military intervention in the Vietnam war.

The Vice-Chancellor (Professor N. C. Phillips), said that the Professorial Board had made no decision to vary the normal timetable approved for that day “and it follows that all classes—lectures, laboratories, seminars, tutorials and the like—will be offered as usual in accordance with the scheme of classes for that day of the academic year.”

Professor. Phillips said that he had no comment to make on the decision of the students to boycott lectures on Friday.
