Courts Ban 131 Drivers
One hundred' and thirty one drivers were put off the road as a result of appearances in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court last month. Of those, 25 were disqualified from driving after being convicted on a charge of driving while their bloodakohol content exceeded 100 milligrams of alcohol to 100 millilitres of blood, and a further four on charges of driving under the influence of drink or drugs. Failure to comply with traffic lights was the biggest single offence which resulted in v disqualification, there being 26 offenders in this category. Thirteen drivers were disqualified for either dangerous or reckless driving, and another 11 for failing to yield the right of way. Disqualification for other traffic offences, including speeding, careless use of a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified, was imposed on a further 49 drivers. Three persons were disqualified from driving as a result of criminal offences which involved the use Of a motor vehicle.
