RETIREMENT NEXT YEAR

Waimate H.S. Headmaster

Dr A. L. M. Perry, who has been rector of the Waimate High School for the last 25 years, will retire at the end of January next year. Dr Perry, who is the senior secondary school principal in New Zealand by length of service, was educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School and the University of Canterbury, Stanford and London. He attained a Doctorate in Philosophy at London and is also a Master of Arts and holds a Diploma in Education. He was an assistant master at Wanganui Collegiate School in 1928 and taught at Christchurch Boys’ High School from 1928 to 1935 and again from 1937 to 1945. Dr Perry was also an assistant lecturer in French at the University of Canterbury from 1938 to 1945. He represented the university at football and boxing and has had published two works, “Secondary Education in England, America and New Zealand," in 1938; and “This Vessel Will Sail . . .” in 1940.
