Snowfalls

Snow fell to low levels in the ranges and foothills of the Ashburton County yesterday, and light falls settled In townships and areas on the plains near the foothills. At Mount Somers about IJin had settled by early yesterday afternoon, and at Erewhon Station 2in had settled round the homestead and vallev floor by mid-afternoon. Only sleet fell at Methven for a few minutes in the early afternoon, and did not settle. Steady rain occurred for much of the day, with 54in recorded to 9 a.m. yesterday. and another Alin to late afternoon vesterday. At Mount Hutt, in the Kakaia Gorge, snow settled in the morning round the station homestead but thawed to some extent later in the day Snow settled in the Montalto area yesterdav morning after overnight rain.
