Objection To Aerial
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, July 14. A 15ft aerial mast, erected on a prominent point of the Pancake rocks at Punakaiki, to be used in association with the off-shore drilling rig soon to begin work off the West Coast, has been objected to. “The aerial has been erected on one of the most prominent spots on the rocks and because there are other sites equally suitable, this is terrible,” said the West Coast public relations officer (Mr D. P. Lydford). “It is a real eyesore and
obstructs the scenery at a time when there are many people going to see the Pancake rocks,” said Dr M. G. Laird, of the Geological Survey, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Dr Laird will write to the Punakaiki Domain Board on the matter. The Sedco oil-drilling rig will work three to four miles off-shore from Barrytown and is due on the scene within a few weeks. Men manning the rig will use Greymouth as their base.
