HOON HAY VALLEY
No Infectious Diseases (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 14. There have been no reported cases of any notifiable infectious disease in Kennedy’s Bush Road or Hoon Hav Valley this year The Minister of Health (Mr McKay) said this in reply to a written question by Mr T. M. McGuigan (Lab.. Lyttelton). Mr McGuigan drew attention to a report in “The Press” on July 7 which said that the Paparua County Council’s health inspector was concerned about the danger of infective hepatitis or more serious diseases because of (he noor drainage facilities. i “Sewage disposal in this krea is complicated by the facts that the subsoil is unable to absorb septic tank effluent, that the area is outside that administered by the Christchurch Drainage Board, that it is outside the Halswell urban area, and that there is no spare capacity for any extension of the sewers of that urban area,” Mr McKay said. “The ultimate solution to this difficult problem is the provision of adequate sewerage reticulation, but this is not easily achieved. I understand that the Paparua County Council might be prepared to provide a night-soil collection service as a temporary measure. ,
“The Department of Health is aware of this situation and will do all that it can, both by advice and the provision of subsidies, to encourage the I local authority to install proper sewerage.”
