League Protest Held Over
A letter from the MaristWestern Suburbs Club, protesting about the poor representation South Island provinces received in the selection of the four New Zealand trial teams, was deferred last evening by the Canterbury Rugby League s board of control.
Several recommendations for the format of future trial series were also made by the club, and board members decided to discuss the matter when deciding upon remits for the next annual national conference.
Other suggestions made by Marist-Western Suburbs were that zone and national selectors not be eligible for provincial appointments and that the national training school’s present format be reviewed.
If the Papanui club is agreeable, the match between its senior team and Marist-Western Suburbs on July 11 will also serve as the preliminary match for the lan Barr Memorial Cup The winner of this game would challenge Hornby for the cup. this match also to be played in conjunction with the third round of the minor championship.
