N.Z. WINS MODEL AIRCRAFT CONTEST
New Zealand made a clean sweep of all sections of the first New Zealand-Australian free flight contest for model aircraft at Yaldhurst at the week-end. The contest, which was run under the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Model Aeronautical Association by the Christchurch Model Aircraft Club, was divided into three classes —rubberpowered models, gliders and those powered by motors. Three competitors from each | team in each class flew their models for five runs, the team aggregate of time aloft over the the 15 runs being the deciding factor. Knowledge of local conditions was an important feature of the New Zealand wins and models which were a little better suited to the day also helped the home team. Arrangements are being made for a New Zealand team of nine enthusiasts to go to Australia
in two years for another contest. Results were.— Rubber Powered.—Australia (aggregate of time aloft over 15 runs), 1331 seconds; New Zealand. 2047 seconds. Glider Class.—Australia. 1704 seconds. New Zealand, 2000 seconds. Motor-powered. Australia. 1364 seconds; New Zealand. 1845 seconds. Best Individual Aggregates Rubber powered: J. Maikin (Wellington), 685 seconds out of a possible 900 seconds. Glider class: A. Edwards (Sydney), 705 seconds. Motor-powered: A. Roots (Wellington), 776 seconds.
