UNUSUAL ENGINE

An unusual engine has been announced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors, and it will be used to power the Vega small car which General Motors will announce in the United States later this year. The engine has a castiron cylinder head and an aluminium block —it is believed to be the first production unit to have aluminium cylinder bores. The four-cylinder unit has a capacity of almost 2300 c.c. and produces about 100 b.h.p. The engine is particularly light because of the aluminium block. It has a single overhead camshaft which is driven by a reinrubber belt, and the THE FRENCH division of General Motors has ordered 100,000 British Britax seatbelts for fitting to all General Motors cars imported into France.

same belt also drives the water-pump. The new engine has already been chosen by a British company for development as a Formula II racing unit.
