Ilam Problems Discussed

Inadequate parking facilities and an inefficient heat Ing system at the new secondary division of the Christchurch Teachers’ College at Ham were matters of great concern, the Teachers’ College Council was told last evening.

The principal of the secondary division (Mr E. P. Blampied) said that while he accepted that there might be a few problems in settling into the new building the pressures on parking and the 45deg temperatures in some lecture rooms greatly concerned him. Streets adjacent to the college were becoming clogged with cars he said, more than 200 being parked in the area. The chairman of the council (Professor H. E. Field) said that there was no Department of Education policy on what parking facilities should be provided. “The council certainly has some responsibility for this,” he said. Mr R. K. Milne: Is there anything that can be done. There will be criticism before long if vehicles continue to be left on the streets.” The council decided to send the results of a parking survey to the department in Wellington, seeking direction.
