Auckland Service For McLaren
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent)
AUCKLAND, June 3.
Arrangements are being made today by the McLaren Racing Organisation to fly to Auckland the body of the New Zealand driver, Bruce McLaren, who died in a crash on the Goodwood testing track, Sussex, yesterday.
A spokesman for the organisation said it was intended that the funeral service would take place in Auckland. A private service would be held in London and this would probably be followed in about 10 days time by a memorial service, perhaps in St Paul’s Cathedral. The New Zealand High Commissioner in London (Sir Denis Blundell), contacted the organisation this morning. It is understood High Commission staff will assist in arrangements for the memorial service. Action was taken this morning to withdraw the McLaren entries from the Belgian Grand Prix, to be held at Spa on Sunday. The event was won by McLaren, driving his own car, two years ago. The spokesman said it was planned to continue McLaren participation in the CanadianAmerican sports car series. A new 1970 McLaren, simi-
• lar to that being driven in I yesterdays fatal testing sesI sion, would be shipped to . America. A second car, that 1 driven by D. Hulme in the I series last year, would also : be used. I The spokesman said no rea- ; son for the crash had beendiscovered.
