Three From Riccarton MELBOURNE CUP NOMINATIONS
Three Riccarton-trained gallopers, Meldie, Every Post, and Hayburner, have been nominated for the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups through the Canterbury Jockey Club.
Meldie, which resumed racing at Riccarton on May 19, was being prepared for a Caulfield Cup campaign last year when knee trouble forced an abandonment of the trip.
From 21 starts this season Every Post has had four wins and been placed six times. His wins include the Marlborough Cup and the Captain Cook Handicap at Royal Trentham in March.
Hayburner, like Every Post is trained by G. D. Lee and
has won two races this season. He has been placed eight times. Every Post has also been entered for the George Adams Mile at Flemington. Bunny Girl, like Meldie, is trained by J. L. Barr, and has been entered for the V.R.C. Oaks. Wingatui Entries In addition to Baghdad Note, several other gallopers have been nominated for important races in Australia, the Dunedin correspondent of “The Press” reports. Watallan, which is trained by B. J. Anderton, has been entered for the Caulfield Cup. A. E. Didham has a team of four entered. Sliderule in the Melbourne Cup; Abacus, Igloo and the My Pal—Share colt owned by Mr D. D. Fea, of Winton, in the Victorian Derby. The other three are owned by Mr Didham. The trainers, J. A. Wilson and H. J. Powell, have entered the Mellay—Cadmean gelding owned* by Mr H. Kendell, of Christchurch, for the Golden Slipper Stakes at the Sydney Turf Club’s meeting.
