Profits Distribution Debate Continued
6V.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON. The trotting-versus-racing debate on the distribution of T.A.B. profits was carried further yesterday when the. racing conference made sub* missions to the Royal Commission on racing. Both groups agreed that the constitution of the board should remain unaltered; that there was satisfaction with the administration and control of agencies; that both opposed interim distribution of T.A.B. profits; and that same-day payout was desirable.
Both conferences said $1 win-and-place unit; that equal-win-and-place unit; that aqualisatffr commission should be increased from 10 per cent to 15 per cent; and that jackpot pools should be subject to commission for clubs, except that the racing conference recommended that the rate be 10.5 per cent while the trotting conference suggested 10.68 per cent.
But the major part of the submission was devoted to the contention that T.A.B. profit distribution between the two codes should be based on off-course turnover only, instead of on—and off—course combined as at
present, which the trotting conference wants preserved.
The submission renewed its argument that because the appeal of racing is greater than that of trotting and attracts greater turnover, troting was being subsidised a the expense of racing.
