Citizens’ Advice Bureau
Sir, — A report on the Progress League appeared in your edition of May 28 which included references to the Citizens’ Advice Bureau. There are two points in that report which I should like to clarify. It was said that “there were 137 welfare organisations in Christchurch and an obvious need for cooperation existed.” It would indeed be a pity if this should be inisinterpreted by interested readers as suggesting that the CA.B. would try to influence the policies of these organisations. The C.A.B. will be a referral agency which will direct inquirers to the organisation best equipped to assist them, and it is
only in this very limited sense that the word “co-ordinate” was intended. The other point concerns the selection panel for interviewers. This panel is a sub-committee of the executive committee set up by the Mayor, which comprises individuals acting in a private capacity and not as representatives of the organisations mentioned in the report.—Yours, etc., J. G. RIMINTON, Chairman, C.A.B. executive committee. May 29, 1970.
