N.Z. Jersey Tops Sale
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY, June 2.
A New Zealand heifer fetched $2OOO, top price at the Jersey sale at the Sydney showgrounds yesterday. A spokesman for the auctioneers, Hedley Johnson Pty, Ltd, and Dalgety and N.Z. Loan, of Sydney and Palmerston North, said today the heifer was one of the costliest dairy cows sold at the showgrounds. The heifer, a two-year-old, was Rocklea Demo Bride, offered by A. O. Neumann and Son, of Ohaewai, Northland. She was purchased by a Victorian farmer.
Twenty-nine New Zealand Jerseys were sold at the sale, held to promote the New Zealand breed in Australia. A New South Wales buyer paid second top price of the auction—sl7o9—for a five-year-old cow, Tolgarth Lan’s Eldessa, offered by Mr F. C. Sutton, of Kaikohe. The New South Wales Milk Board paid the best price for a bull at the sale. This was $l3OO for an eight-month-old animal on account of R. D. and O. D: Hosking of Branstow Stud, Waiuku.
