AKAROA HOTEL
Interest By League
The Canterbury Progress League is to pursue the matter of providing additional first-class accommodation in Akaroa despite statements by the Government that there is no need for further accommodation there. This was decided at its meeting after Mr E. H. Williams, executive officer at the Canterbury Hotel Association, gave a report on the situation. ■
“I believe the league should push this further,” he said. Sufficient good accommodation in Akaroa should be provided not only for overseas tourists but for New Zealand tourists as well. Dr I. D. Blair said Akaroa had been woefully neglected and under-exploited as a tourist spot. The journey to Aka roa could be made very interesting if a commentary could be given to visitors on the history of the area. Everything possible should be done to establish adequate accommodation at Akaroa, he said. The chairman (Mr P. F Maples) said finance was the bottleneck.
