PASTURE DEATHS
Concern By Board (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 1. The Agricultural Chemicals Board was. most concerned about the bird deaths caused by the application of fensulfothion to pasture, the chairman of the board (Mr P. J. Clark) said. Speaking after a meeting of the board in Wellington, he said the whole fensulfothion problem had been considered by the board. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter), had called for a report and the board’s views would be conveyed to him.
There was no chance, however, of D.D.T. being reintroduced for use on pastures. But so far the board had not made any decision to ban it for horticultural uses. “There is no problem of a build-UP of D.D.T. residues in oqr vegetables,” said Mr Clark.
Debating Trophy. The Wellington Waterside Debating and Study Club won back the George Smyth Trophy for inter-port debating from Auckland on Sat ; urday when it negated the motion that "price control is a farce” by arguing that it was “a disaster, not a farce.” —(P.A.)
