WELLINGTON.
G. Batty made a notable debut for Wellington in a Rugby match against Manawatu at Athletic Park yesterday. Wellington won, 24-16.
In the game’s second spell Batty received the ball about 50 yards out after a clearing kick from the Manawatu halfback, R. Gearry, had bounced in-field. He accelerated, passed two or three Manawatu players and, without dropping a stride, swerved outwards where a gap to the try-line suddenly loomed. To make this touch-down, Batty, in effect, had to run through the whole Manawatu side.
Another feature of the match was the successful re* turn to Rugby of the All Black tourist, G. F. Kember, who scored 12 of the points'as Wellington raced to a 21*0 lead at half-time.
