Cheque Presented To Heart Foundation

TIMARU, May 21
The Mount Studholme Rodeo Club, Waimate, today presented a cheque for $3OO to the National Heart Foundation in Timaru.
Commenting that each year the rodeo club gave a share of its profits to a worth-while charitable organisation, the president, Mr K. S. Breed, said: “We selected the Heart Foundation this year as an organisation which could benefit from the money, and we also felt it would assist the foundation to reach its target,” he said.
Other organisations which have benefited by donations from the Rodeo Club include the Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Society, the Crippled Children Society, and the South Canterbury branch of the Institute for the Blind. Donations have also been made to South Canterbury projects. In the last 14 years the Rodeo Club.had given more than $5OOO to charitable organisations from profits from their annual rodeo, said said Mr Breed, presenting the cheque.
The cheque was. accepted by the South Canterbury representative on the Canter-bury-Westland regional committee of the Heart Foundation, Mr R. H. Kerr. Both Mr Kerr and the chairman of the regional committee, Mr R. F. Ballantyne, of Christchurch, thanked the club. Noting that the target for the national appeal by the Heart Foundation had been slm last year, Mr Ballantyne said that when the appeal had closed in October $970,000 had been raised. “But since closing date we have received several donations in the Canterbury district, and this cheque brings the extra donations to over $800,” said Mr Ballantyne. He said that the foundation was still encouraging donations to its funds.
