PART-TIME PRIESTS
Training Plan In Auckland
(N.Z Preus Association)
AUCKLAND, May 21.
The Anglican Church in Auckland may introduce next year a scheme for the training of part-time priests —men in secular employment who would be willing, in their spare time, to assist Anglican clergy. These auxiliary priests would be ordained after a three-year, part-time study course, and would receive expenses, but no salary. The Bishop of Auckland (the Right Rev. E. A. Gowing) said last night the major reason for. the scheme was the population explosion in the Auckland urban area and the fact that there would soon not be enough ordained priests to cope with it.
