SERIOUS INJURY
Set-Back To Patterson
The New Zealand hockey captain, A. J. Patterson, has had a set-back to his hopes of being fit for the World Cup Zone elimination series against Australia later this season.
Patterson suffered torn ligaments in his left leg during a summer hockey match earlier this year. Last week-end he entered hospital to have the trouble corrected, but it was discovered that the ligaments were too badly damaged to be saved by surgery. Physiotherapy now seems Patterson’s only recourse and he plans to: begin strengthening exercises as soon as he can.
In spite of the latest setback, Patterson is still hopeful of being able to play hockey before the end of August, the month in which the series against Australia is likely to be played.
