Large Entry For Tap-Dancing

A record number of 560 entries were received for the Christchurch Tap Dancing Association’s tenth annual competitions which began yesterday at the Riccarton Town Hall. They will continue today and end tomorrow night in a demonstration concert by the prize winners after which the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr R. W. J. Harrington) will present the trophies.

The ages of the entrants range from four to 24 and they come from Invercargill, Greymouth, Dunedin, and the West Coast as well as from Christchurch.

The hail was packed all day yesterday with parents, children and friends.

The judge. Mrs W. Farmer, of Otago, said that the standard of the dancing was high. Results: Novice Tap (under eight).— Adele Ellery 1, Bruce Hofenk 2, Gaynor Emmery 3.
