LEWIS PASS POWER

Residents 20 miles towards Lewis Pass from the Hanmer Springs turn-off will be linked to the North Canterbury Electric Power Board system next year. The area is the last major one within the board’s district waiting to be reticulated. Another was Lees Valley, but this was given a supply only last month.

The General Manager (Mr D. W. Harris), reported to the May meeting of the board that the Local Authorities Loans Board had given approval for the board to take steps to raise a loan of $150,000, which among other works would provide for the extension of the supply to the Lewis Pass.

The loan will provide also for capital developments on a 33,000-volt sub-transmission station at Amberley to serve the district north of Ashley to Omihi and sub-transmission improvements for the Amur! district.

The Rev. G. A. B. Lee will act as priest-in-charge of the Christ Church Cathedral Parish, Nelson, after the retirement of the Dean of Nelson (the Very Rev. W. F. Bretton) on May 31, until a new dean and vicar of the cathedral has taken up his duties.
