Man Sentenced To Gaol

WANGANUI, May 19.
The theft of a rifle could only be regarded in a serious light, Mr J. C. K. Fabian, S.M., told a Hautu Prison escaper today. Warren Reece Eyles, aged 2D, a roofer, was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, to be served concurrently with hjs present term, on charges of escaping from prison and stealing a $3OOO Auckland Education Board van. On a charge of stealing a rifle and ammunition he was also sen-j tenced to nine months gaol, ■ to be served cumulatively. In an earlier hearing, it was alleged that Eyles stole the rifle to shoot his wife.
Mr P. C. Owens, for Eyles, said Eyles was adamant that it; was not his intention to shoot his wife. '*ln fact, Eyles is not sure; if he was going to shoot any-; one,” Mr Owens said. Eyles broke out of prison because | of- his domestic situation.
