(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, May 19.
Two New Zealand engineers and one economist would make a feasibility study of a major new highway in southern Sumatra, the Prime Minister (Mr Holy oake) announced today. The three men are from companies which are members of Enex, a non-profit-making association of New Zealand consultants and other firms established to promote the export of New Zealand services.
The three men are Messrs A. G. Longley (engineer), of Andrew Murray and Partners, M. M. Andrews (engineer), of Worley Downey Muir and Associates, and G. M. Altman (economist), of W. D. Scott and Company. Mr Holyoake said that the New Zealand assistance had been requested by the Indonesian Government under the Colombo Plan, and was the first step of a far-reaching scheme to improve communications between Sumatra and Java.
