REVIEW OF FINES

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 19. A special Justice Department committee was reviewing the whole question of fines as Court sentences and fining enforcement, the Minister of Justice (Mr Riddiford) said in Parliament today.

The committee would seek a system to enable the Courts to use the sentence of a fine to the best advantage, and also a more flexible policy towards enforcement, Mr Riddiford said. He was replying to a question from Mr P. I. Wilkinson (Nat., Rodney).
