Growth in golf

The number of active male golfers in New Zealand has increased by 115 per cent during the last 1(1 years, according to a New Zealand Golf Association report There were 360 registered clubs throughout the country in 16 district associations last year. The North Island had 37,058 or 67.1 per cent of the players while the South Island had 18,170 players. The South Island’s percentage of players rose from 31.8 per cent in 1966 to 32.9 per cent last year.

The over-all Increase In the number of players last year was 9.6 per cent taking the total to 55,228 active male golfers. Ten years ago the figure was 25,616.
