TWO OUT OF TRIAL
Key Players Injured
There have been two withdrawals from the southern region men’s basketball trial, to be held by the national selector-coach (Mr T. Wright, of Nelson), in Christchurch next week-end. A. Bland (Wellington), and C. Morris (Nelson), are injured and unlikely to play again this season. Bland, one of the top players in the country, had to withdraw from the recent central region trial in Wellington because of an ankle injury. He was then chosen for the southern trial but seriously injured a knee in a club game last Monday night. Morris, who played most of his first-class basketball for Canterbury, returned to Nelson at the end of last season and this year yielded to a long-held desire to play Rugby. He has severely torn ligaments in a leg. Morris has recently recovered from a knee injury which kept him on the sidelines most of last season. The national assistant coach, Mr D. Hornblow, of Wellington, has changed his mind about attending the trial. He has decided that the Wellington team which he coaches has first claim on his services.
