SPRINKLER SYSTEMS

70 p.c. Of Fires Extinguished

(N Z Press Association)

AUCKLAND, April 23.

Experience in Australia and New Zealand was that in buildings with automatic sprinkler systems 70 per cent of all fires were completely extinguished before the fire brigade arrived. Mr H. W. Marryatt, chairman of the Australia Fire Protection Society, told a fire and timber symposium in Auckland today. He said the fire sprinkler systems were installed in New Zealand in 1889 and in Australia in 1886. Since then 5734 fires had been recorded and fire brigade performance had been satisfactory in 99.74 per cent of fires.
