Superintendent To Visit
The Rev. B. Rajasingam, superintendent of the Central Methodist Mission in Colombo, Ceylon, will visit New Zealand his month, arriving in Christchurch on April 16. Mr Rajasingam has been superintendent of the mission since 1961. He will travel as far south as Timaru and as far north as Auckland during his visit, speaking to ministers, congregations and church groups on the work done by the mission in Colombo. The Colombo mission is in the worst slum area of the city and just recently a $lOO,OOO building was opened there by Mr Rajasingam. It contains a hostel, a recreation hall, a reading room, and a rest room. One-third of the cost of the building was provided by Inter-Church Aid.
Mr Rajasingam was born of non-Christian parents, but became a Christian at the age of 15. In 1943 he was accepted by the Ceylon Methodist Conference as a candidate for the ministry and was ordained in 1950. He was director of evangelism for seven years and youth director for three years before becoming superintendent of the Colombo mission.
