WOMAN DIES IN FIRE

(N.Z. Press Association) OAMARU, April 6. A woman died this morning at her flat in Robertson Street after her mattress caught fire. She was Alison Madeline Watt, aged 57, a pensioner. The chief fire officer in Oamaru, Mr C. A. Nightingale, said that the mattress was not in flames, but was smouldering, and Mrs Watt had been suffocated.

Naval Visit—H.M.N.Z.S. Inverell is due at Lyttelton next Saturday and will give weapon and seamanship training to naval reservists from H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus. The vessel will sail again on Sunday.
