League Selectors Elected
Mr H. J. Walker, a farmer South Island centre, was elected to the Canterbury senior Rugby league salactlan panel and then chasen as caach by the Canterbury board of control last evening. In both capacities Mr Walker will replace Mr W. F. McNaughtan. Mr E, Butts will again be the convener of the panel, and Mr D. L. Blanchard also retained his position as a selector.
Mr Butts was one of seven men nominated for the panel, but his name was removed from the list when elected as the board’s convener. Messrs Walker and Blanchard gained the other two places by beating Messrs L. R. Clarke, A. O’Donnell, R. G. Woodgate, and McNaughtan in a secret ballot. Players Suspended Inter-club transfer suspensions of four matches were imposed on four players, the former West Coast and Canterbury forward, G. A. Cowan (Mariet-Western Suburbs to Addington), R. Curry . (Addington to Kaiapoi). P. R. Blackler (Kaiapoi to Papanui), and J. A. Rothwell (Marist-Western Suburbs to Addington), when their applications to transfer were discussed. A. Mcßeath was granted a penalty-free transfer from Addington to Sydenham, subject to the clearance form being completed before the first round on Saturday. A letter had been received at a previous board
meeting releasing Mcßeath from Addington because Sydenham was tfble to offer him play in his preferred grade. Invitation.—The board decided to invite Otago to send its representative team to Christchurch on May 17 or 24. Nominations. Thirty-nine teams were nominated for the five open grades, four more than last season.
